The Pentec Hybrid Manifold combines an Open Manifold and a Buffer Tank.

Open Manifold

An Open Manifold is used in hybrid heating installations, so that multiple (small) heat generators can be used. These heat generators (boilers or heat pumps) are connected in parallel (in a cascade arrangement). By installing an Open Manifold, the hydraulic connection between the heat generator (primary system) and the delivery/installation circuit (secondary system) is established.

Buffer tank

The presence of a buffer tank or 'anti-cycling tank' is essential because a heat pump, unlike a central heating boiler, needs about 10 minutes to transfer its heat into the system when it goes out. If this does not work, or not well enough, the heat pump will cycle (on-off / on-off).

In order for heat pumps to work as efficiently as possible, this cycle should be limited as much as possible. By using a buffer tank, the thermal capacity of the heating system is increased; excess heat is stored and released when necessary.

The buffer tank also prevents the heat delivery system from cooling down. This means that when the outdoor unit of the heat pump freezes, heat is extracted from the heating system to defrost the outdoor unit.

In summary: by using a buffer tank you achieve a longer lifespan for your heat pump with a higher efficiency. This is efficient and durable!

The Pentec Hybrid Distributor is an insulated stainless steel buffer vessel, which is factory fitted with:
- 2 x mounting (wall) support (with slotted holes)
- 8x22 mm or 8x28 mm compression connections
- 1/2" drain (bottom of buffer tank)
- 1/2" float vent (top). buffer tank)
- Stainless steel: 2 mm thick
- Insulation R-value: 0.043 Watt/mK at 400C
