Pentec Hybrid Distributor combines an Open Distributor and a Buffer Tank.

Open Distributor

An Open Distributor is used in hybrid heating systems to allow the use of multiple (small) heat generators. These heat generators (boilers or heat pumps) are connected in parallel (in a cascade arrangement). By installing an Open Distributor, the hydraulic connection between the heat generator (primary system) and the distribution/installation circuit (secondary system) is established.

Buffer Tank

The presence of a buffer tank or "anti-swing tank" is essential because, unlike a boiler, a heat pump requires about 10 minutes to transfer its heat into the system when it shuts down. If this is not done, or not done well enough, the heat pump will start to swing (on-off / on-off).

To make heat pumps operate as efficiently as possible, this swinging should be minimized. By using a buffer tank, the thermal capacity of the heating system is increased; excess heat is stored and released when needed.

The buffer tank also prevents the heat distribution system from cooling down. This means that when the outdoor unit of the heat pump freezes, heat is drawn from the distribution system to defrost the outdoor unit.

In summary: Using a buffer tank increases the lifespan of your heat pump and improves its efficiency. This is both efficient and sustainable!

The Pentec Hybrid Distributor is an insulated stainless steel buffer tank, factory-equipped with:

• 2 x mounting (wall) brackets (with slotted holes)
• 8x22 mm or 8x28 mm elbow connections
• 1/2" drain (bottom of buffer tank)
• 1/2" float vent (top of buffer tank)
• Stainless steel: 2 mm thick
• Insulation R-value: 0.043 Watt/mK at 40°C
